Answer engine optimization for life insurance agencies

Life Insurance AEO Agency: Take the Citation Slot the Aggregators Hold

Ask ChatGPT for term life quotes in your city and it names a carrier and two aggregators. Our own Sioux Falls life site took that slot: 292 citations in six weeks, more than any carrier or aggregator for its questions. This page is the build that did it, priced, for your agency.

From $247/month, published pricing below

The short answer

A life insurance AEO agency makes your website one of the sources an AI engine names when someone in your market asks a life insurance question. Life questions come in three families: how much and which type, whether a condition is insurable, and what the beneficiary actually gets. We build answer pages for all three, add the structured data (schema markup) the engines parse, open the door to the AI crawlers, and expose a quote tool an agent can call. Strategic AI Architects runs this exact build on its own life insurance site, founded by Mike Moore, a licensed health and life producer.

AEO, GEO (generative engine optimization) and AI SEO describe the same work. We say AEO because the shopper asked a question, and the question is what you have to win.

Who the engines cite for life insurance in one real market

We probe ChatGPT and Perplexity every week with 20 life insurance questions for Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County, South Dakota, from "term life insurance quotes Sioux Falls SD" to "life insurance no medical exam" and "burial insurance Sioux Falls," and record every domain each answer cites. This is the leaderboard for August 19 to October 1, 2026.

Most cited

bigsiouxlife.com, our own independent agency site, 292 citations. It has one answer page per tracked question, each with the schema, sources and local detail described below.

Second

A national carrier's product pages, 144 citations. Hundreds of pages, one product each, no local answer.

Third

A national auto and home carrier, 126 citations, cited mostly for term life definitions and "how much do I need" math.

Fourth and fifth

A carrier's agent-locator pages, 116, and a personal finance publisher, 113. The engines reach for a locator page when no local agency has an answer page.

Aggregators

The two largest online life insurance aggregators drew 69 and 63 citations. A digital-first life insurer drew 65. All three are the names a shopper hears when no local page exists.

Other local agencies

Three Sioux Falls independent agencies appeared with 86, 75 and 74 citations each. Every one of them has at least one page that answers a specific life question for the city. Agencies with a homepage and a quote button: zero in our set.

Why life is its own problem

The question is personal, the answer is regulated, and the aggregators got there first

Three things make life insurance different from every other line an AEO agency might work in, and each one changes what the pages have to contain.

01

Underwriting questions are the biggest opening

"Can I get life insurance with type 2 diabetes," "does vaping count as smoking," "life insurance after a DUI." Carriers will not answer these plainly, aggregators answer them generically, and the shopper asking is ready to apply. A local page that explains how underwriting classes work, what a condition usually means for class and rate, and when a no-exam policy fits, is the most citable page in the vertical. We write them without rate promises, with the carrier named only where you are appointed.

The long-form guide: why underwriting questions are the opening.
02

Beneficiary and payout questions are high intent and unanswered

"Is a life insurance payout taxable," "how long does a claim take," "what if the beneficiary died first." The federal rule is plain: under 26 U.S.C. § 101(a)(1), death benefits paid by reason of the insured's death are excluded from gross income, with exceptions the page has to name. Almost no local agency has a page on it. We build the beneficiary cluster with the statute cited and your state's rules named.

Guide section: beneficiary and payout questions.
03

Privacy cuts both ways on a life quote form

A life quote form asks about health, medications and tobacco. That is health-adjacent data, and a Meta pixel firing on it is a liability. The other failure is the opposite: agencies strip all tracking and cannot see what the AI traffic does. We wire tracking server-side and consent-gated so nothing fires on the quote form and you still see the conversions.

What we build

The life insurance AEO build, component by component

This is the stack on bigsiouxlife.com, the site at the top of the leaderboard above. Each component is one the free audit checks on your site.

01

Twenty answer pages for your city's life questions

How much coverage, term versus whole, no-exam options, mortgage protection, life insurance for parents, final expense and burial, and the underwriting and beneficiary clusters above. One question per page, the answer in the first two sentences, a named source for every figure, your city and county in the copy because the engines resolve the question to a place.

02

Four pieces of structured data an engine can verify

Article or Service schema with organization-level authorship (who published this). FAQPage schema for every question block (what it answers). Dataset schema, a machine-readable label naming the statute or government source a figure came from (where the number is from). And llms.txt plus WebMCP, below (how a machine reads and uses the site).

03

Open the door to AI crawlers, then tell them where to look

We check robots.txt and the firewall for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended and Bingbot, fix the managed rules that block them silently, and publish an llms.txt, a plain-text index at your site's root that tells AI crawlers which pages answer which questions.

Which AI crawlers to allow · What llms.txt is
04

WebMCP: a term quote tool an AI agent can call

WebMCP is a published list of tools on your site that an AI agent can run, not just read: a manifest at /.well-known/mcp.json and an /mcp endpoint that expose your quote request as a callable function. bigsiouxlife.com runs one in production, and the long-form guide shows the live endpoint responding.

05

The speed floor every citation depends on

We ran PageSpeed on 1,080 insurance agency websites and found a median mobile score of 61. bigsiouxlife.com and our other builds measure 99 to 100 on mobile, because a page that fails Core Web Vitals is a page the engines deprioritize before they read a word.

Questions life agencies ask about AEO

What is a life insurance AEO agency?
A life insurance AEO agency makes a life agency's website one of the sources ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot name when a shopper asks a life insurance question in that agency's market. For life, the questions cluster into three families: how much and which type, whether a health condition or habit is insurable, and what happens to the beneficiary at claim time. Strategic AI Architects builds answer pages for all three, with the structured data, crawler access and callable quote tool the engines need, and runs the same build on its own life site.
Why do AI engines cite national aggregators and carriers for life insurance instead of local agents?
Because they have a page for every question and most local agencies have a homepage and a quote button. In our Sioux Falls tracking, the domains cited most after our own site were a carrier's product pages, a national carrier, a carrier's agent-locator pages and a personal finance publisher. Each of those has hundreds of pages that answer one life insurance question each. An independent agency with twenty well-built answer pages competes for the same slot, and in our market wins it.
Can an independent life agency really out-cite a national carrier?
Ours did. Between August 19 and October 1, 2026, bigsiouxlife.com was cited 292 times across its 20 tracked Sioux Falls life questions, against 144 for the most-cited carrier domain and 69 and 63 for the two largest aggregators. The engines do not weight by company size. They weight by whether the page answers the question asked, for the place asked about, with a source.
What life insurance questions should an agency answer first?
The ones with intent and no good local answer: how much life insurance do I need, term versus whole life in your state, life insurance with no medical exam, mortgage protection, life insurance for parents, and whether a specific condition is insurable. Underwriting questions are the biggest opening because carriers will not answer them plainly and aggregators answer them generically. Beneficiary and payout questions come next; they are high intent and almost nobody local answers them.
What does life insurance AEO cost?
It is included in every Digital Foundation tier. Starter is $247 a month for the complete AEO-built website plus Google Business Profile and reviews. Pro is $497 a month and adds one new answer post and one new location page every week plus a 24/7 AI receptionist. Scale is $997 a month for a post every business day and two location pages a week. The AI-ready website alone is $84 a month. Month to month, cancel by email any month with no fee, 14-day free trial, and the $997 setup fee is currently waived.
Is AI-written life insurance content a compliance problem?
It can be. Carrier advertising review and state replacement rules apply to what your site says about a product, and generic AI content invents guarantees and rates. Our life answer pages state what a product does without rate promises, name the carrier only where you are appointed, and are sent to you for review before they go live. The compliant version is the citable version, because it is specific and dated.
How long until a life agency sees citations?
Here is what we have measured. Our Sioux Falls life site reached 292 citations in its first six-week tracking window. Google AI Overviews follow normal Google indexing. Nobody can promise a specific citation, because the engines do not publish a selection formula. What we promise is the conditions you control, and a monthly report that shows which questions name you.
